This place is a hidden gem!!! Amazing welcoming, lovely pub, great rooms and all round excellent experience.
I stayed for two nights for work and the staff welcomed me with open arms and a smile on their face.
The rooms were spectacular! Loads of parking next to them too. The tea and coffee varieties were great, beds huge and the bathroom had plenty of space.
Dinner in the evening was exceptional. The fish and chips were to die for!
Nice selection of alcohol and soft drinks (not drinking whilst on work visit)
Breakfast the next day was delightful and fresh. The selection was plentiful and got me ready for the day ahead.
Highly recommend for a stay, lunch or dinner visit!
Rooms: Amazing, clean and full of good amenities
Food & drinks: Fish and chips was excellent and the breakfast

Having stayed here a couple of times when it was owned by the Olivers I was a little disappointed to see it had changed hands when I booked again. After looking at the reviews I was even more sceptical. ||I have to say i needn't have been. …

Our stay was amazing! Every member of staff was so friendly but a special mention to Gail who was at breakfast both mornings of our stay she made us & our dog feel so welcome & gave us some very good recommendations for places to visit in the area & other pubs within the chestnut group that could be worth visiting. We will definitely be returning & we have recommended the cricketers to friends already.

To be honest disappointing for the price we paid for our stay.
Room was pleasant. Surroundings are picturesque! Food was standard although failed to listen to request of ‘well done’ for beef burger meal.
Staff could be more apologetic to lack of facilities. No hot water which has clearly been an issue for a number of years after viewing past reviews & proof to back this up an electric heater supplied in the room (which had collected some dust so clearly not a temporary measure). Overheard lots of complaints from other guests during our stay. Staff also need to be better communicators told we had a £70 spend on Christmas Eve which was included in our package, wasn’t told this didn’t include drinks so lost out on our spend as only had a main meal each totalling to under £40 so the pub made money in that way!
Was told that this was the first Christmas The Cricketers had been open in 45 years & in our opinion I don’t think you should revisit the idea for Christmas 2024 unless you have several practice runs throughout this year!
Still not received a receipt by email after settling up on Boxing Day morning for our extras plus almost tried to charge us twice for Christmas Day extras & for what was meant to be included in our package. No mulled wine on arrival as advertised. No compensation for lack of hot water. I wouldn’t recommend.

We stayed 3 nights for the Christmas break. All meals included plus a hamper for Christmas night and a Christmas present. Can't fault the food it was excellent 1st class, thoroughly enjoyed the 5 course Christmas lunch. Evening meals were delicious as were the breakfasts. Service from the waitresses was excellent and friendly. The room was okay, could do with a few touch up here and there and not as nice as the photos online. A wee bit dark (this is Better Rooms). Maid service 1st class as we didn't know they replenished every day. Lovely high quality hamper thank you. One major disappointment was the greeting (or lack of it) when we arrived as the bar staff seemed to have no idea that we had booked the Christmas package. So basically there was no welcome greeting at all, and for the first 3 days after each meal they billed us for the meals which was frustrating so we had to complain. There seemed no organisation on this part. One said they take the money and deduct it from the price of the room, but we had paid for our room in advance... Another said how could they know who we are when they have a hundred people to serve... Both unacceptable replies. Breakfast staff more professional. So, if it wasn't for the greeting and the bill mix ups I would have scored higher

We stayed here a good number of times when it was owned by Jamie Oliver’s dad and was always impressed with the accommodation and lovely food. We decided to have a midweek break of our usual - turn up in the afternoon, stay overnight stay …

Lovely traditional English country pub.. quality food and staff couldn't be friendlier.
Rooms are modern and reasonably well equipped.
Very quite location and lots of countryside to explore.. the woodland trundle took nearly 2 hours but if the weather is fit and you are it's well worth the effort.
Once Jamie Oliver's parents owned and ran the pub for 44 years and I am led to believe Jamie cut his cheffing teeth in the very same kitchen, which makes it a little more magical.

Thank you for a magical evening. It was wonderful from the lovey setting to the lovely staff and delicious food. And we loved the doggie menu. You’ve started our Christmas off with a lovely magical feeling. The festive menu was delicious. We will be back.

Rooms were a good standard. Pub is excellent, staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Food was a good standard for the price point. The attention given to dogs with beds and treats is a really nice touch. All in all one of our best stays in recent times and will definitely return. We are considering booking with other family members for Christmas!

Visited today with family. Haven't been here for a while, but have to say it was superb. The restaurant area/ old pub, is spacious and clean with bags of atmosphere. The menu and specials very interesting and delicious.
Special mention for the choice of wine, so pleased to see local produce and we tried a range which were all excellent.
Must also mention our waitress Vic. She never stopped smiling and handled a busy room expertly and efficiently.
We'll done, will be back.
